Robert Leonard Hess

Robert (Bob) Leonard Hess left this world peacefully with family by his side at Advent Hospital in Overland Park, KS on March 11th, 2023, at the age of 79. Bob was born in Cheyenne, WY on July 31st, 1943 to Marvin and Virginia (Beck) Hess. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Renee (Hess) Marciniak of Paola, KS and is survived by his beloved wife Linda Lee (Williams) Hess of Overland Park, KS; daughter Virginia Lee Hess of Overland Park, KS; son and daughter in law Donald Charles Hess, Natasha (Belcher) Hess and son Noah Belcher of Shawnee, KS; Son and daughter in law  Robert (Bobby) Leonard Hess II, Jennifer (Buehler) Hess and son Braiden Turner of Shawnee, KS; Grandchildren Glen Marciniak of Independence, MO and Jackie Marciniak of Olathe, KS.

As a young man, Bob served in the United States Army and went on to work for the United States Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service, until retirement. His work ethic was instilled in his children with great pride. Bob was dedicated to his family and had many hobbies. Fishing with his children was a favorite. Meticulously tending to his yard work and flowers, Bob was known by neighbors, family and friends as having the best lawn in the neighborhood.  He tirelessly researched and compiled 6 centuries of family history spanning the globe. Bob loved watching the ducks on the lake behind his home, tending to them gently and lovingly. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and modifying it to his own personal liking. He was a fearless daredevil when water skiing or riding his Harley Davidson.

Bob’s family was everything to him, loving them with all his heart and soul. He was a kind, generous and humble man who was deeply loved by so many.

Visitation will be held at Amos Family Funeral Home,10901 Johnson Drive Shawnee, KS on Saturday March 25th from 10:00 am to Noon. Bob loved flowers and they are most welcome at his visitation.  Donations can be sent to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association to aid in finding a cure for Diabetes and Dementia.
