Obituary

Patricia “Yard” Sullivan, 79, of Shawnee, KS, passed away on March 6, 2023. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas, rosary to begin at 5 p.m. A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, March 15, at 9:30 a.m., at Redemptorist Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri. A celebration of life luncheon will be held immediately following the funeral mass at Shawnee Town Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Pat was born on March 19, 1943, to Charlie & Retha (Selanders) Yard, in Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1961. In 1965, Pat married Dan Sullivan. While that union did not last, it provided her what she considered her greatest accomplishment, her 4 children—Kathleen, Eveleen, DJ, and Maureen, whom she devoted her life to, at least until her grandkids (Kaeleen, Sara, Jack & Mason) came along, and they became the center of her world. Pat worked for the City of Shawnee for more than 20 years and was always proud of her service there and the people she helped. She never met a stranger and had the ability to make everyone feel special. She had a wicked sense of humor and had a witty reply for every situation. You rarely saw her without her Diet Pepsi and a cigarette. Pat loved to play cards, especially ten-point pitch, and was always in search of a “fourth player.” She opened her home to friends and family any time of the day, and she made sure you never left hungry, especially if you were lucky enough to be there for her infamous tacos. Pat also loved to gamble, favoring the slot machines and particularly the ones at The Argosy in the wee hours of the morning (when the “amateurs” were not there). Above all, she loved spending time with her family, whom she spoiled to no end.

Pat was preceded in death by her mother, Retha; father, Charlie; step-father, Bob; and ex-husband, Dan. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Sullivan, Eveleen (Jim) Vanderbilt and Maureen (Joe) Kronawitter; her son Daniel (DJ) Sullivan; her four grandkids who could do no wrong, Kaeleen Kronawitter, Sara Kronawitter, Jack Kronawitter, and Mason Vanderbilt; her siblings, Charlene Dulac, Cindy (Eddie) Woods, and Robert (Diane) Selanders; several in-laws whom she considered family, many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her beloved dog, Lola, who was by her side until the very end.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Pat’s name to Operation Breakthrough or Great Plains SPCA. Pat, on the other hand, would suggest putting your money in a slot machine, or on black 22.
