Kay Reid Obituary

Kay M Reid, 85, of Hutchinson, KS entered eternal rest on March 29th, 2023, at Wesley Towers Nursing Home. She was born February 21st, 1938, in Salina, KS the daughter of Bert and Kathleen (Peterson) Waddell. 

Kay was a graduate of Manhattan High School and Graduated with BA in Sociology with a minor in Religion from Baker University, Baldwin KS in 1960. Zeta Tau Alpha Sigma Chapter (ZTA).  She was a lifetime learner also obtaining teaching certificates from the University of Hawaii and George Mason University in Secondary Spanish and English as a second language. 

Kay dedicated her life to serving others through her mission work including work in Peru, Mexico and Costa Rica and volunteer work to her church communities. She was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church, Shawnee, KS and Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson KS.  

Kay was united in marriage to Larry Reid on June 7th, 1964, at the First United Methodist Church, Manhattan KS, they shared 35 years of marriage, prior to his death on December 21, 1999. 

She was preceded in death by: Her parents, husband, sister Linda Houser and brother Don Waddell 

Kay is survived by her children, Debbie Kilgore, Douglas Reid of Shawnee, KS and Jason (Carissa) Reid of Hutchinson, KS; Sister Jean Peters, Olsburg, Ks, Brother-in-law Kirk (Kim) Reid of Missoula, MT; grandchildren, Cody Varga (Tyler), Janelle May (Mitchell), Kevin Peeler, Piper Reid, Josie Reid, Alex Reid, Gabriella Reid; and 7 great -grandchildren. 

Memorial service will be 10:00am, Friday, April 7, 2023 at Shawnee United Methodist Church, 10700 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203 with a visitation starting at 9:00am; burial to follow at Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan KS. To view the service live CLICK HERE
