John Halligan Obituary

John Kenneth Halligan, 72, of Overland Park, KS, passed away March 25, 2023 following a courageous two-year battle with liver cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, April 1, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Mission, 5641 Outlook Street, Mission, KS 66202 with a visitation starting at 11:00 am.

John grew up in Massapequa NY.  As a young man, John spent a year hitchhiking across Europe, stopping only long enough to earn money to get to his next destination and sleeping on the beaches in Greece. He called these his "hippie years".  John served his country as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy.  He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Mission where he served as Assistant Treasurer and Trustee.  He also enjoyed spending time with the babies in the nursery.  John's passion was his Triumph Street Triple RS bike.  He spent hours riding the twisting farm roads of northern MO/KS and challenging the on/off ramps.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John Halligan, Julene and Robert Lownie, and brother, Scott Lownie.

Survivors include his wife, Joy, son, Josh and grandson, John Thomas Halligan.  Siblings, Marnette (Justin) Salmon, Leslie (Gerald) Spaits, Nanette (Dean) DeLong, Martin (Catherine) Halligan, Robert (Carol) Lownie, Russell (Jen) Lownie, Kenneth (Mary) Lownie, Cathy Lownie Degi.  Nephews, Michael (Kelsi) Salmon, Dalton (Anna) DeLong, Reid (Courtney) DeLong.  Nieces, Madison Garcia and Allison (Chris) Massengill.  Blended family, Cindy (Todd) Collene, Tyler (Holly) Collene, Whitney (Justin) Vogt and Jordan (Kelsey) Collene.

John will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
