Christopher Ray Buchanan

Christopher Ray Buchanan, known by all as Chris, passed away unexpectedly at home in Lenexa, Kansas on August 1, 2023, at the age of 38.

He was born on May 23, 1985. Chris graduated from Blue Valley High School and furthered his education at Johnson County Community College and DeVry University. He enjoyed many occupations during his life, most recently as a valued employee and coworker working his way up at Casey's in Lenexa.

Chris was active in the congregation of Lenexa United Methodist Church, where he volunteered on mission trips and outreach with the Mixed Nuts volunteer group. In his free time, Chris enjoyed playing club recreational softball, listening to music, eating Chinese food, and working on his cherished collection of athletic shoes. Throughout his life, he was a mainstay at Grandma Rose’s house, where family members both near and far would gather for birthdays and holidays. He was always up for Marco Polo or a diving contest in the backyard swimming pool. He could be counted on to join in a game of cards, Spoons or Risk. He had a big smile, and a bigger laugh.

Chris is survived by his brother Dennis S. Buchanan of Olathe, KS, grandmother Dorothy Glaettli Rose of Lenexa, KS, step-father Mike Hilton of LaCygne, KS, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother Barbara C. Rose Hilton, his father Billy Ray Buchanan, his grandfather Robert Jay Rose, aunt Susan Rose Mixon and uncle Robert Scott Rose.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 17, from 6 PM-8PM in Schneeberger Hall at Lenexa United Methodist Church to honor Chris’ memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LUMC Mixed Nuts Mission Group at 9138 Caenen Lake Rd, Lenexa, KS 66215. These contributions will support a cause that was close to Chris' heart.

Chris Buchanan will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
