Barbara Patterson Obituary
Barbara Jean Holsapple, was born in Goodland, Ks the middle of three to Henry “Hank” and Helen Holsapple on Tuesday, December 17 1946. Her early years were spent in the big skies of western Kansas, then in 1954 the family moved to Overland Park. She graduated from Shawnee Mission West where she ran hurdles and enjoyed the new sounds of the British invasion. She was always full of life and looking for the next adventure.
For almost forty years, Barbara worked at Shawnee Mission Medical center in a variety of settings but most of her career was spent working in the frenetic energy of the emergency department. She loved her SMMC family and remained in contact with a handful of her co-workers over the years.
She enjoyed watching and going to the Royals games and was an early season ticket holder to the Kansas City Chiefs. She was always listening to music especially bluegrass, old singer songwriters and of course the Beatles, Alexa, turn it up. She was also very fond of birdwatching and loved the serenity and freedom associated with birds. A funny quirk of hers was that when riding with her if she saw a hawk, she would yell out HAWK! On her nightstand was always a book it could be a book on birds or the biggest autobiography. She was a giver. She wanted you to feel special, supported, loved and safe.
She is survived by her brother Lou Holsapple, (Shawnee) and her son Michael Pence, wife Ellie, step-grandson Brennan Grose, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her mother Helen Holsapple, father, Henry Holsapple, sister Myra Ann Holland and brother in law Frank Holland.
