Wesley Dale Wright

Wesley Dale Wright, aged 63, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas. Born on November 19, 1962, in Wichita, Kansas, Wesley was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Wesley followed in his father's footsteps as a second-generation railroad worker, dedicating much of his life to the railways. He began his career as a locomotive engineer for the Kansas Southwestern Railway before working as a machinist at Boeing Aircraft Company. His love for the challenges of running locomotives through the prairies and small towns of the Midwest led him to resume his career as a locomotive engineer with Union Pacific Railroad in Kansas City.

When his children were young, he often spent weekends with them at Joyland Amusement Park, the Boeing Employee Lake, riding bicycles, and camping. A lifelong hat and boot-wearing, George Strait-loving cowboy, later in life he embraced his love for Hawaii after a visit there. This newfound passion manifested in his collection of ukuleles and surfboards, and wearing Hawaiian shirts, shorts, and sandals daily.

Wesley is preceded in death by his parents, Joyce Louise (Ellison) Wright and Larry Dale Wright. Married for 35 years to Susan Marie (Conner) Wright, together they raised Catherine Mackenzie Wright, Elisabeth Michaelyn Wright, and Nicholas Preston Wright. Wesley is survived by his wife, children, daughter-in-law Rebekah Nicole (Miller) Wright, and grandchildren Alexander Blake Wright and Ava Grace Wright.

A private family service was held at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
