Victor Macek, Jr.

Victor "Vic" Macek, Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted community member, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, in Shawnee, Kansas, at the age of 94. Born on February 10, 1932, in Kansas City, Kansas, Vic lived a full and vibrant life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Vic was the proud owner and operator of Macek's Auto Service, a beloved establishment he founded on August 9, 1959. For over 40 years, he dedicated himself to his craft as an auto mechanic, earning the respect and admiration of the community he served diligently. His passion for antique cars, particularly REOs and General Motor vehicles, was well-known, and he restored the 1930 REO Fire Truck for the city of Shawnee with meticulous care and pride.

An avid outdoorsman, Vic found joy in snow skiing, waterskiing, boating, bicycling, and duck hunting. His love for the great outdoors was a testament to his adventurous spirit and zest for life.

Vic was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for over 60 years and a man of unwavering faith. He was also a valued member of several clubs and organizations, including the REO Club of America, where he served as Past President, the Horseless Carriage Club, Antique Truck Historical Society, Riviera Club, and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. His commitment to education was evident through his service on the Board of Directors at De LaSalle Education Center.

A proud Army veteran, Vic served his country honorably during the Korean War, being discharged in 1954. His patriotism and dedication to duty were evident in all aspects of his life.

Vic was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Macek, Sr. and Mary Macek; his first wife, Mary Agnes Macek; daughter, Ann Rosey; siblings, Helen, Mike, Tony, John, Matt, Frank, Joseph and Daniel Macek; and son-in-law, Lyle Doyle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille Macek; children, Tim Macek, Jean (Paul) Buechler, Mary Jo Doyle, Cathy Macek, John (Janet) Macek, Jim Macek, and Don (Kristin) Macek; step-sons, Stephen (Ruth) Toplikar and Edward Toplikar; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa Moody; and brother, Tom Macek. Vic’s legacy will live on through his family and the countless lives he touched.

Services to honor Vic's life will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will occur from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a rosary at 10:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Christian Brothers of the Midwest, 7650 S. County Line Road, Burr Ridge, IL 60527 ensuring that Vic's commitment to education continues to inspire future generations.
