Vickie Diane Poe, 80, of Kansas City died Wednesday, June 28, 2023, in Kansas City, Kansas after a short illness. She was born on July 22, 1942, to Victor Warren and Thelma Rita (Baker) Keckler in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Vickie attended Hutchinson High school, graduating in 1960. She married Wiley Pat Poe June 9, 1962. They later divorced. While living in Hutchinson, Vickie worked for Banker’s Investments, USD 308 (Prosperity School) and Dillon’s Corporation, both in the stores and in the distribution center. She moved to Kansas City in 1987 to assist with the opening of the Kansas City branch of Dillon’s distribution. After parting ways with Dillon’s, Vickie worked for the US Postal service as a seasonal mail carrier. Her dedication to the job and doing it well was so great that one day she finished her daily route with a broken leg after slipping on ice. But she really found her niche working in collections for Alliance Data. She had a way of chatting with people and helping them resolve their issues. She once said it was her favorite work, and she was very successful. She happily worked until she was 75.
Vickie didn’t know a stranger and had a smile that lit up the room. She loved her friends and family and spending time with them. She was an avid Kansas City Royals fan and loved watching any baseball or football game she could find on TV. She also had a passion for NASCAR and driver Tony Stewart, and she loved to fish. Before her illness, you could find her every now and then at one of the casinos playing penny slots or playing dollar bingo with her neighbors.
Vickie is survived by her daughter, Lea Ann Poe; grandson, Zachary Poe; great granddaughter, Peyton Elizabeth Poe, all of Kansas City; brothers, Robert Keckler, Newton and Steven Keckler, Denver; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Nate Verlin; brothers, Jere Keckler and Victor Eugene Keckler; sister, Karen McIntosh; ex-husband, Wiley Pat Poe.
Cremation has already taken place and no funeral services are planned. Our hearts are broken at losing her, but we know she is free again.
