George Thomas “Tom” Rieke, 72, Lenexa, KS passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10 at St. Joseph Catholic Church; entombment in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either St. Joseph Grade School or the Knights of Columbus #2332 Shawnee Council.
Tom was born August 9, 1949 in Kansas City, MO to George J. and Helen L. Rieke. He was a 1967 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School and was a US Army veteran.
Tom dedicated his life to the family owned construction company, Max Rieke and Bros., founded by his father, George.
Tom led a very active life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, car races, sitting at the barn for happy hour and his time at the lake with family and friends (which usually included a cocktail). In 1993, he started dating the love of his life, Debbie VanLerberg. They were married on Oct. 10, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Rieke; two sisters, Lynn (Ed) Maurer, Lenexa, KS and Gina (Pete) DeGraeve, Olathe, KS; brother, Steve (Ginny) Rieke, DeSoto, KS; three sisters-in-law, Sharon (Ray) June, Shawnee, KS, Aimee VanLerberg, Shawnee, KS and Connie (Dan Wheat) VanLerberg, Lenexa, KS; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
