With heavy hearts, we share that Todd Karnatz, age 52, passed away on March 24, 2026, following a brief and unexpected kidney cancer diagnosis. Todd was born on January 5, 1974 in Grand Island, Nebraska, and spent his childhood in Schuyler, Nebraska. He grew up with a love for basketball, which led him to attend Ottawa University, where he played collegiately and graduated in 1997. After college, Todd made his home in Olathe, Kansas, where he built a life centered on family, community, and service. Todd lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication.

Todd was known for his integrity, leadership, and strong sense of responsibility throughout his professional career. As Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer at CoreFirst Bank & Trust, he earned the respect of colleagues and peers through his dedication, work ethic, and commitment to excellence. Todd took great pride in his work, the relationships he built along the way, and the time he devoted to mentoring and supporting his colleagues.

His leadership and dedication extended far beyond his professional role. Todd was an active and engaged member of the Lenexa community, serving with distinction in several organizations. He was a committed member of Lenexa Chamber of Commerce and the Lenexa Economic Development Council, where he served as Chair in the past year and was honored for his service.

He was also a Leadership Lenexa alumnus, receiving special recognition for his continued involvement and impact. He served as Chamber Ambassador, helping foster connections and growth within the local business community. His leadership and involvement over the years played a meaningful role in helping CoreFirst Bank & Trust be inducted into Lenexa’s Business & Industry Hall of Fame in 2023- an accomplishment that reflected his professional excellence and his deep commitment to his community. Todd also previously served as President of the Blue Valley Rotary.

Despite these many accomplishments, Todd remained humble, selfless and devoted. He never sought recognition or spoke of his achievements, and many may not have fully known the extent of his impact within the community. He gave his time and energy generously because he believed in doing the right thing and in serving others.

Above all else, Todd was a devoted husband to Robin and a loving, compassionate father to Ava and Lincoln. His family meant everything to him, and he cherished every moment shared with them. Whether cheering on his children at their sporting events or enjoying family movie nights filled with his favorite quotes and jokes, Todd created a home full of love, laughter, and lasting memories that will never be forgotten.

Todd had a gift for building meaningful, long lasting friendships and connections. He had a presence that made people feel at ease; he valued and welcomed everyone he encountered. His friendships were meaningful, and his contagious humor—filled with his signature sarcasm—brought constant joy and laughter to those around him.  Whether through a quick conversation, a shared laugh, or simply being present, Todd had a natural ability to connect with others, turning acquaintances into friendships that he deeply cherished. Todd had a warm and endearing nature that drew people in and made everyone feel welcome.

Todd had a deep love for MLS soccer, especially Sporting Kansas City, along with golf, basketball, and fishing at the lake. He enjoyed cheering from the stands, spending time outdoors, watching movies, and sharing his passions with the people he loved. Todd embraced the simple moments that brought his friends and family together. His generosity and compassion also showed in his commitment to donating blood-giving around 8 gallons throughout his lifetime-not for recognition, but to help those in need. Todd’s love for soccer went beyond his kids and fandom; it led to him being accepted to volunteer for the 2026 World Cup this summer. His selfless acts reflect the kind of person he was-someone who gave without hesitation, loved with his whole heart, and who forever will leave a lasting impact on those around him.

Todd was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reuel Karnatz, Helen Cook, Orves (“Pete”) Doughman, and Betty Thomas Doughman. He is survived by his devoted wife, Robin; his beloved children, Ava and Lincoln; his parents, Jerry and Sandra Karnatz; his sister, Tami (Jared) Marshall; his brother, Brent (Jennifer) Karnatz; and nieces, Riley Marshall, Hadley and Kendall Karnatz; and nephews Reid Karnatz and Colton Marshall.

As we gather to honor Todd’s memory, we remember his kind and loving heart, the smiles he brought to those around him, and the deep love he shared with everyone he knew. He leaves behind countless memories, and his legacy will continue to live on in the lives he touched and the lasting impact he made on all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to benefit the Olathe Community Donation Center. Todd was a dedicated donor reaching an incredible 8-gallon milestone. His goal was to reach 10 gallons.  When donating, friends and family can check the box to dedicate their gift, select “In Memory Of,” and enter Todd’s name.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to benefit KU Endowment, 3901 Rainbow Boulevard, Mail Stop 3012, Kansas City, KS 66160, to benefit Kidney Cancer Research.  Please indicate that donations are for the Todd Karnatz memorial.
