Terrie was born to Robert and Ruth (Hudson) Tyler on August 3, 1950 at St. Luke’s in Kansas City, MO. She was a prolific swimmer for Leawood Country Club while growing up and has the medals to prove it. She graduated from Shawnee Mission East in 1968. After enrolling at Kansas State University an old high school classmate introduced her to his pledge brother, a guy from Syracuse, New York named Bob Gettino. They hit it off quite well and got married on June 6, 1970 and recently celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Terrie enjoyed reading, traveling, the mountains, socializing with her Kappa Alpha Theta sorority sisters, making stained glass windows, sewing (including her wedding dress), and the pet dogs (Wolf, Phoenix, Smokey, Dusty, Colby, Eva, and Bella). She loved to tell people that she was the only person she knew of whose dogs’ names described her house… Smokey & Dusty! She possessed a great sense of humor and always sent the best cards to people on their special occasions.
Terrie was preceeded in death by her parents, and her sister, Helen Gammon. She is survived by her husband Bob Gettino, Shawnee, KS, her sister Nancy Cross (Tim Schauermann) of Portland, OR, her brother Doug Tyler (Karen) of Overland Park, her brother Mike Tyler of Overland Park and by numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of her family.
Visitation will be held at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 27th, with a chapel service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday July 28th prior to burial in St. Joseph cemetery.
