Steven Charles Hasty, 79, of Lenexa, passed away peacefully on April 12, with family by his side. Steve lived life to the fullest, was devoted to his wife and role as Papa to his family, and was quick to remind everyone to live by the principles of Micah 6:8 - act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
He was born on Sept 17, 1946 in Alma, Nebraska, to Dean and Gloria Hasty. He grew up alongside his brother and cousins, hunting, playing sports, and building and racing vehicles.
Steve joined the Marine Corps Reserves after high school and attended the University of Nebraska in Omaha, studying Industrial Engineering, and met and married Vicki Johnson. After graduation, Steve started his career in Fresno, CA, and then he and Vicki moved to Kansas City as owners of what became A&E Custom Manufacturing. Church involvement was always a cornerstone for them, and Steve lived with gratefulness and awareness of God’s grace in his life. He also tried never to miss opening weekend of pheasant season with his favorite cousin, Barry. Since retiring, he embraced golf and fishing with buddies, time and travel with Vicki and the family, serving as a mentor for various ministries and younger business leaders, and more golf. Steve was always extremely generous, lived with high integrity, and was usually the life-of-the-party, always looking forward to the next adventure.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki (of 55 years), his three children, Jennifer (Vince) LaVergne, Laura (Cole) Chmielewski, and Zach (Tierney) Hasty, and 7 treasured grandchildren- Jack, Hayes, Isaac, Grace, Ryder, Hallie, and Dominic. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David.
A private family service will be held, along with a wider gathering to reminisce and express gratitude for knowing Steve, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Steve’s giving spirit, donations may be made to a charity/cause you already support, Young Life Mid-America, or KC Hospice.
