Dorothy Sherilyn Seitz passed away peacefully at the home of her son in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on April 2, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on October 27, 1940, she lived a life dedicated to family, teaching, and a passion for discovery.

Sherilyn graduated from Wichita East High and pursued higher education at the University of Arizona, where she earned her degree before completing a Master's in Education. Her commitment to learning and teaching was evident throughout her 39-year career as a schoolteacher, primarily at Highlands Elementary within the Shawnee Mission School District. With a focus on fourth and third grades, she was an early adopter of handheld calculators and classroom computers, inspiring countless students who benefited from her forward-thinking approach.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Sherilyn relished expanding her horizons through travel, fellowship, and shared culinary experiences with friends and family. Her involvement in numerous organizations reflected her diverse interests and dedication to community service. She was an active member of the Old Mission Methodist Church, where she treasured her association with the Pathfinders Sunday School Class.

Her love for music and the arts was celebrated through her patronage in the Symphony League and Lyric Opera Circle. Sherilyn’s vibrant personality shone at gatherings with her own Red Hat Bookclub, Rotary Kansas City, PEO, Kappa Alpha Theta, American Business Women's Association, KC Rose Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, and The International Wine and Food Society.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Richard Arthur Perkuhn and Dorothy I Perkuhn, and her brother, Richard Gardner Perkuhn. Sherilyn married Elson F. Seitz in 1964 and is survived by her loving son, Richard Frederick Seitz, and cherished grandchildren, Isaac Richard Seitz and Sherilyn Joy Seitz.
