On September 8, 2026, at the Ted Hersey Home in Leawood, Kansas, our Lord Jesus opened His arms and welcomed home our beloved mother, Sally Mae West. In her final moments, her daughters were by her side, and she was surrounded by love. As a true believer in Christ, we find comfort in knowing that she is now with Him. We can picture Jesus welcoming her home and giving her the most special pair of wings He had been saving just for her.
Sally was born on September 23, 1937, in Rochester, Minnesota, and was the daughter of Kenneth and Helen Hansen. Eventually, the family moved to Kansas, where Sally graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1955. After graduation, she went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
On October 26, 1957, Sally married William “Bill” West. Together, they raised their four children: Cindy, Becky, Mike, and Steven.
Sally went on to build a remarkable career as a real estate agent, a beloved profession she pursued for more than 50 years. She loved selling real estate and took great pride in helping others turn a house into a home. She spent much of her career working for A.J. “Tony” Lang, and together they developed the subdivision known as Quivira Hills. Beyond their professional relationship, Tony and his wife, Betty, became more like family to Sally.
Sally also served on the Shawnee Planning Commission.
Sally was a strong Christian, and her faith was essential to her throughout her life. While pregnant with her first daughter, Cindy, Sally was baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Years later, she joined First Baptist Church of Shawnee, where she remained a faithful member until her passing.
Sally was very active in her church and especially enjoyed cooking the Wednesday night dinners and preparing meals for funerals. She was also involved in Vacation Bible School, The Angel Tree Project with Prison Fellowship, and serving lunches at St. Mary’s Kitchen. Sally loved serving her Lord in any capacity she could.
She thoroughly enjoyed listening to Pastor David Brown’s sermons and listening to Keith Garrett sing. Her faith was not simply something she believed—it was something she lived.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Helen; her husband, Bill; her son, Steven; her brother, Kenny; and countless other family members and friends who passed before her.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Bruce) Ahrens and Becky (Steve) Boulware, and her son, Mike West.
She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Matt (Pam) Ahrens, Chris (Allie) Ahrens, Julie (Josh) Bosley, Kevin Boulware, and Paul West; five great-grandchildren: Roslyn, Matthew, Ava, Sophie, and Ellie Ahrens; her sister-in-law, Linda Hansen; her sister, Pam Habeeb; and several nieces and one nephew.
Sally is also survived by her high school classmate and dear friend, Pat Thomas, and her good friend and real estate partner, Shirley Parsons.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Ted Hersey Home and Ascend Hospice for the wonderful care, compassion, and love they gave Sally.
Sally’s final request is that you all continue to do the work of our Lord and Savior. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to: Christian Life Outfitters P.O. Box 3407 Shawnee, KS 66203.
Sally lived a life rooted in faith, family, service, and love. While we will miss her more than words can express, we take comfort in knowing that she is home with her Lord and Savior.
Until we meet again, Mom. We love you, and we will carry your love and faith with us forever.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 16th from 10am to 12pm at the Amos Family Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 12pm. Sally will be laid to rest next to her husband at Pleasant View Cemetery following her service.
