Ruth Marie (Ising) Freund of Shawnee KS was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. She passed away peacefully in her home on March 3, 2022 surrounded by love.
She was born to Bruno and Alice Ising on February 21, 1927. She attended Sacred Heart grade school and Redemptorist High School in Kansas City. She met and married the love of her life John (Jack) Freund at Sacred Heart. They grew their family having a total of seven children. Ruth served as a volunteer at St Joe school in the library, a room mother and a Hospice volunteer. She was also a mother and care taker to everyone she met.
In her younger years she loved to play sports rather than watch. Baseball, roller skating and dancing were her favorites. She loved spending time with her family including frequent trips to Branson with her sisters. After Jack passed, she spent every Friday night with her sisters playing cards. Saturday night became family night at her house. Anyone was welcome to stop by for hot beef sandwiches and good company.
Ruth was solid in her faith and prayed a minimum of one rosary every day. She was the definition of a matriarch and was surrounded by her loved ones until the very end!
She was preceded in death by her parents Bruno & Alice, husband Jack, brothers Edward, Jack and Mike Ising and her daughter Mary Catherine and many other close family members. She is survived by her sisters Kathryn, Mary Alice and Martha (Dick). Her children Jack (Kathy), Ed (Luanne), Bob (Dena), Don (Linda), Nancy (Bob) and Tim. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Not to mention all the other people she took under her wing and touched with her welcoming nature and love.
A wake will be held from 6-8pm on March 10th at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee. A rosary will be prayed at 6 pm. The funeral will be held on March 11th at 10:00 am at St Joseph’s in Shawnee with burial to follow.
In light of Ruth’s charitable spirit, the family asks that in lieu of flowers you donate to a charity of your choosing or Little Sisters of the Poor, Unbound or Catholic Community Hospice.
