July 16, 1935- August 6, 2023
Robert “Bob” Dean Parks passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 6th, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Bob was born in Clinton, Missouri where he lived until 1951 when he moved to DeSoto, Kansas. He graduated from DeSoto High School in 1953. He then worked at the Sunflower ammunition plant until he left for the Army. He served his country in Korea from 1955-1957 where he was a vehicle track and wheel mechanic. He eventually retired from Home Depot in 2018.
Bob married the love of his life, Donna Lakten, on February 5, 1971. They were happily married until her sudden passing on November 8, 2016.
Bob had many talents and hobbies. He was a skilled woodcrafter, stained glass artist, and trout fisherman. He and his wife, Donna, had their “camper” parked at Bennett Springs Park where they spent every other weekend trout fishing. They also looked forward to their yearly fall road trip vacations, which almost always included a trip to a beach.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, mother, Marjorie Mulvaney and father, Robert Parks. He leaves a younger brother, David Parks (Lisa), sister, Carol Carpenter, 2 children, Dean Lakten (Patti) of Atlanta, GA, and Leeann (David) of Shawnee, KS. He had five grandchildren, Chris Pflumm (Shawnee, KS), Bobby Dean Lakten (Samantha) (Atlanta, GA), Michelle Pflumm (Overland Park, KS), Austin Pflumm (Denver, CO), and Taylor Pflumm (Shawnee, KS). He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Precious.
We would like to thank everyone at Crossroads Palliative & Hospice Care. The nurses, staff, and Chaplin were so kind and compassionate to Bob. We could not have done it without their help.
There will be a service at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas on Wednesday August 9th starting with visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 7:00. There will be a burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery on Thursday, August 10th at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be made to Great Plains SPCA.
