Regina (Gina) Silk was born in Westmoreland County, PA on July 24, 1945 to James Monstrola and Robena Castellano Monstrola. She graduated from Jeannette, PA High School in 1963, and from the University of Eastern Kentucky in 1967. While in the Bluegrass State she taught special education students. Upon moving to Kansas City in early 1972
she eventually met, then married Benjamin Silk. As an active couple they worked together establishing a legal services firm assisting lawyers and law firms across the nation. Upon retirement Gina enjoyed traveling, gourmet food, dancing, and especially all animals and the profound beauty of nature. Her absolute favorite feline was, of course, lions (as she was born a "Leo." Throughout her life she was surrounded by dogs and cats, and often reminisced about having personally met, along with her parents, Elvis Presley at his Graceland estate in Memphis, TN. Gina was lucky to have had so many loving and caring friends throughout her life. With her deep Italian heritage she spent time in Northern Italy with various family members, and thoroughly delighted in trips all across the USA. Numerous trips to the Oregon Coast, New York City, and the British Virgin Islands especially.
Gina passed away on October 12th. following a sudden massive stroke. Her loving husband Ben was holding her hand while looking into each others eyes as she gently left for her next adventure. Prior to her death she had also lost her step-daughter Rachel Silk in February, 2024. Her husband was her only family.
Those wishing to offer any contributions in Gina's name should consider St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (where she and her husband have helped 'adopt" several male lions). Also you might also remember any organization that helps kids, animals, alongside health-related topic including Multiple Sclerosis and Essential Tremor Foundation, both which Gina had endured over the last several decades.
Finally, her husband wishes to thank all the staff at St. Luke's Hospital Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute for their wonderful and compassionate care showed towards Gina's final week. He could not be more appreciative.
At Gina's request there will be no formal service, and she will be interred in Delmont, PA alongside her mom and dad.
