Peggy Noreen Fisher Smiley, 64, Shawnee, KS, passed away in her home on August 2, 2022.
Peggy was born February 13, 1958 in Kansas City to Vincent and Helen Carlene (Crago) Fisher.
She was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri public schools and completed her education at Shawnee Mission East. She worked as an accountant for various companies including the Armstrong Teasdale law firm where she met her future husband, David, united in marriage to him on June 24, 1995. She was a gifted artist who in her family’s opinion didn’t spend enough time creating art. She was introduced to Sudoku by daughter in law Alicia Smiley and became an avid daily player. She collected thimbles, Steinbach nutcrackers, and everything imaginable – she kept EVERYTHING. Peggy was high spirited and fiercely loyal to her children and grandchildren. She served as President of the Maplewood Elementary School PTA and went door to door soliciting votes to pass school bond drives. She was a member of United Methodist Women at Asbury United Methodist Church, Prairie Village, where she organized and worked at the Pumpkin Patch, scrubbed pots and pans after church dinners, and won a service award for her work on behalf of the church. Peggy was a high-spirited energetic woman where everything had to be “just so”.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, and brother, Michael Eslinger (Lisa). Cherishing her memory are husband David, Mother Helen Carlene Gillespie, sister Sharon (Steve) Miller, sister Gail Fisher, daughters Sara (Brian) and Jillian (Victor), Linda Smiley Powers (Eric), Jonathan Smiley (Alicia), eight grandchildren, Eleanor, Zachary, Lexi, Taylor, Tyson, William, Denton, and Avery, and her “girls” Belle a long-haired Dachshund, and Duchess a rescued brown tabby.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Asbury United Methodist Church.
Special thanks to the staff at Amos Family Funeral Home, and practitioners at Advent Health Shawnee Mission, especially Drs. Kyassa and Hughes at the Cancer Center, and Drs. Jacquelyn Allen, and Christine Cook.
A Memorial Service for Peggy will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27.
Interment will be at Lenexa Cemetery at a later date.
Peggy is dearly loved and missed. Life is short.
