Patricia Ann Avelluto

An angel returned to heaven but not before imparting some of God’s most beautiful lessons.

Patricia Ann (née Martinez) Avelluto, affectionately known as Patti, was born March 10, 1966, and passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, at the age of 60.

Words truly do not suffice: Patti had an infectious laugh and a childlike innocence with which she handled the world. She always looked for the good in people and rarely took sides. Above all, her mission was to defend the defenseless and create an environment of good.

Even in doing the most mundane of tasks, Patti brought light. She would even sing and clap while doing the laundry! Her children were her greatest love (right along with sweets!) and she was happiest helping them and other kids in her life to feel happy, loved, and included. She wanted happiness and laughter for all.

Patti and her husband, John, grew up just one street apart after he moved to Kansas City as a boy. For years, Patti and her family frequented the pizzeria run by John and his family. They eventually began dating, beginning a whirlwind romance that grew into a beautiful marriage of just over 37 years.

Patti spent many years running the family’s Italian restaurant alongside John and their family and sons, Dominic and Gianni. This summer, she was fortunate to enjoy a family vacation in Italy, a trip in which she took great joy and pride.

Patti is survived by her husband, John Avelluto; her sons, Dominic and Gianni Avelluto; her parents, Patricia and Louis Martinez; her brother, Louis Martinez; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her younger brother, Stephen Martinez, who died in adolescence.

Patti will be remembered for her awe inspiring humor and her love for her family and her children, her compassion for others, and her belief in undying kindness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 am Friday, August 28, 2026 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri 64111.
