Ova Marie Gaignat

March 3, 1925 — November 6, 2022

Ova Marie (Harbour) Gaignat, age 97 passed away Saturday November 6, 2022 at the Olathe Hospice House.  She was born March 3, 1925 in Muncie Kansas to John Rhinely Sr. and Sadie (Crum) Harbour.  She is the 4th of 7 children.  She graduated from Turner High School in 1943.  On April 14, 1948 she married Norman Gaignat.  She was a homemaker and part-time seamstress, doing anything from sewing on a button to making wedding dresses.  She worked at Turner High School as the study hall supervisor, attendance secretary, bookkeeper, and finally office manager.  She retired in 1993 after 18 years of service.  She was an inductee in the Turner Hall of Fame.  She raised her family in the Turner area of Kansas City, KS, until she moved to Shawnee, KS in 2004. She was active in the Turner grade school PTA, Turner Fortnightly, and is the last surviving member of the Elizabeth Study Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Rhinely Sr. and Sadie Harbour, her husband Norman Gaignat, her son Jim Gaignat and son-in-law David Dibben, sister and brother-in-law, Emanetta and Sam Qualls; brother in law Paul Jones; brothers and sister-in-laws John Rhinely and Patricia Harbour,  Elmer and Barb Harbour, Wilma Harbour, Robert and Martha Harbour and Donald Harbour.  She is survived by her daughter Jeanette Dibben Las Vegas NV, daughter-in-law Debbie Gaignat of Shawnee and son and daughter-in-law John and Lisa Gaignat of Shawnee.  Six grandchildren Michelle and John Kever Sr., Marcus Dibben, Christopher and Sara Gaignat, and Kendall Gaignat. Great grandchildren, Gaten Willis, John Kever Jr., Grant Dibben, and Caden Dibben and one great-great grandchild Jiraiya Willis. She is also survived by a sister Patience Jones and a sister-in-law Jan Harbour, as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins. She made an impact on the many lives she touched. We love you Mom!

A celebration of her life will be at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee on Saturday November 12th from 1:00-3:00 pm, with the Eulogy at 3:00 pm.  The service at 3:00 pm will be livestreamed for anyone unable to attend.
