Michelle Kernicky, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospice House at the age of 62. Born on May 7, 1964, in Shawnee, Kansas, Michelle lived a life full of love, laughter, passion for the Lord and devotion to those around her.
Michelle was a dedicated professional with a long history in sporting goods sales, contributing her talents to Dales Sports, Nill Brothers Sports, and BSN. Her work not only reflected her passion for sports but also her ability to connect with people and share in their enthusiasm for athletic pursuits.
Outside of her career, Michelle's life was enriched by her love for spending time with family and friends. She cherished vacations with her tribe (Daphne and Deb), had a profound passion for coaching and playing softball. Her commitment to nurturing young minds was evident in her work with church youth, where she inspired many with her deep love for the Lord Jesus.
The essence of Michelle can be captured by the word "Joy." As she often said, “Joy is not the absence of sorrow, it’s the presence of God!” Her radiant spirit touched everyone she met, and she loved so big and was deeply loved in return.
Michelle is preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Naomi Davenport, and her mother, Janice Kernicky. She is survived by her father, Michael (Fran) Kernicky, brothers, Jim (Alison) Kernicky of Boiling Springs, North Carolina, and Steve (Lisa) Kernicky of Olathe, Kansas. She leaves behind her cherished nephews, James (Dawn), Timothy (Ashley), Daniel (Joy), and Ryan (Sarah) Kernicky; nieces, Ashley (Tanner), Jessee and Kelsie Kernicky; several great-nieces and nephews; and her dear sister in Christ, Daphne Flaharty.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Michelle's life during a visitation on August 26, from 6-8 pm at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, Kansas. A funeral service will be held on August 27 at 1 pm at Westside Family Church, 8500 Woodsonia Dr., Lenexa, Kansas, with burial to follow at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, 23215 W 75th St, Shawnee, KS 66227.
Michelle's joyous spirit and unwavering faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and joy will continue to inspire us all.
