Melissa Kay Johnson

August 14, 1951 — July 27, 2023

Melissa Kay Johnson, 71, passed away at Advent Health in Shawnee Kansas on July 27, 2023. Melissa was born August 14, 1951 to Harold and Dorothy Parker in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Center High School in 1969 and went on to receive both a Bachelors and Masters Degree from the University of Missouri. Although she held a variety of occupations, the career she truly excelled at was being a loving friend, sister, grandparent, mother and wife.

Despite numerous illnesses she never lost her love for life and always seemed to balance her pain with laughter and love for others. She saw life through the eyes of an artist which was reflected in her skills at decorating, gardening, photography, floral arrangements, painting and crafts. She had a passion for shopping and always felt a sense of victory when she was able to walk away with a bargain.

Melissa is survived by her husband Doug, her children Whitney Vosburg and Austin Phillips, her step-children Julie Johnson and Christopher Johnson, grandchildren Madison Vosburg, Lucille Phillips, Harlow Taylor, Madeline Johnson, Erik Johnson, Bailey Johnson, Aurora Johnson, and Benny Johnson, and brothers John Parker, Kim Parker, and David Parker.

A Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00 PM with visitation, and a memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM on Tuesday August 8, 2023  at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee.
