Mary Luella Powers, lovingly known as Luella, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, in Riverview, Florida, at the age of 86. Born on May 5, 1939, in Merriam, Kansas, Luella lived a life filled with love, laughter, and warmth.
Luella was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Frank and Mildred Wilkinson, her cherished husband Gene Powers, her siblings Florence Hall, Opal Anderson, Frank Wilkinson, and Mildred McWhirter, her children Tammy Rieke and Mark Powers, and her grandson Adam Powers.
Her journey included working at Sprint and dedicating herself to the role of a housewife, where she created a nurturing home environment filled with love and joy. In her free time, Luella found happiness in gardening alongside her husband, enjoying the simple pleasures of shopping, playing bingo, and spending precious moments with her family and friends.
Luella's spirit lives on through her grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Wesley, Heather, Chris, Savannah, Ashlyn, Mark Jr., Joey, John Paul, Destiny, Aron, Ayden, Lincoln, Logan, Alex, Brandon, Mia and Nick. Along with her grandchildren, she has several surviving nieces and nephews including Leroy and Laura Sue. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Luella's life will be held at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens at 1 PM on April 18, 2026. As Luella always adored flowers, any floral tributes laid at her burial site would mean the world to her and serve as a beautiful reminder of the joy she brought into our lives.
Luella's enduring love and vibrant spirit will forever remain in our hearts, reminding us to cherish each moment and embrace the beauty around us. She is now reunited with those she dearly missed, tending a garden in the skies.
