Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Marjory L. Dwight, passed away on September 29, 2026 at the age of 92. She is survived by her sons Jim, Tim and Paul; her grandchildren Justin, Tom, Jacqueline, Rachel, Mark, Jeremiah and Nathan; her great grandchildren Calvin, Nolan, Brayden, Allyson and Riley; and her sister Martha. She was predeceased by her daughter Ann and her granddaughter Jenny.

Marjory was born Marjory Dornes on February 8, 1934, the fifth of six children born in her family’s farmhouse near Burlington, KS. She raised four children in a home in Shawnee, KS and remained in the Kansas City area the rest of her life.

Marjory’s kindness and caring shone bright in our lives. She was the most kind person we have ever known. Marjory raised two grandchildren (Jenny and Justin) when their mother, Ann, was unable to do so. She loved her decades as the administrator of Sharon Lane Nursing Home, partly because the position allowed her to continue caring for others. With her children and grandchildren all raised and out of the house, Marjory filled some of the void by adopting cats. We all thought she was a “dog person” - turns out, she was just waiting for us to leave so she could adopt cats!

Even when her body began deteriorating and her memory began slipping, Marjory remained cheerful and considerate. She smiled at everyone who entered her room and delighted in seeing photos of her great grandchildren. The world lost a bright light when she passed, but we are all grateful for the extraordinary care and kindness she provided over her long life.
