Margaret Mary Crawford

Margaret Mary Crawford, 100, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away on August 27, 2026. A private memorial service is planned.

Margie was born September 8, 1925, in Pleasantville, NY, the third of five children. Although she spent most of her life in the Midwest, she remained connected to New York, returning often for high school reunions, visits with friends and relatives, and trips into New York City.

Margie was an involved and loving mother of two girls and two boys. She seemed to have boundless energy, caring for her children and home while maintaining an endless calendar of birthdays, holidays, and other gatherings for family, friends, and neighbors. She also actively participated in organizations such as the PTA, YMCA, YWCA, and BSA that benefited her children.

Margie ran a pretty tight ship at home to make it all work, but she had a soft spot for all creatures great and small, even when those creatures threatened her domestic sensibilities. Her boys brought home everything the surrounding area had to offer, including countless reptiles and amphibians, and a baby raccoon whose mother had been hit by a car. These joined a more traditional collection of pets over the years, including dogs, cats, parakeets, and hamsters. Margie tolerated it all, and while she appeared horrified one day after discovering the raccoon had eaten one of the parakeets, leaving a trail of bright blue feathers throughout the living room, she may have been secretly thinking, “Well, that’s a net loss of one!”

Alongside all she did for her family and home, Margie also made time to pursue interests of her own, becoming an accomplished bridge player and golfer. After her children had grown, she expanded her hobbies to include mahjong, investing, macramé jewelry, and possibly her favorite, travel. With her second husband (and childhood sweetheart) Robert, Margie traveled frequently, touring the National Parks, cruising throughout Europe, sunning in Jamaica, and spending many winters in Florida. Even in her eighties, she embarked on a trip to China.

Margie encouraged her family to embrace life fully and to live honestly, reminding us that our satisfaction in life depends on the choices we make—so make them wisely. She was generous and supportive: a caregiver, career counselor, chauffeur and life coach. Whatever the need, she was always there for us, and we will carry her love with us always.

Margie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph Williams and Florence Williams (née Pindt); husband Robert Crawford; siblings Joe, Ethel, Marion and Richard; and daughter Wendy Jacobs. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Faile; son Scott Faile; son Ted Faile and wife Diane; grandchildren Jesse Crawford and Ian Faile; and great-grandchildren Cody and Allyson.
