Lorene Owens Cobb passed away on March 14, 2016 at Sharon Lane Nursing Center. She was born Sept. 11, 1920 in Thayer, MO to G.R. and Pearl Dodson Owens, the oldest of 8 children. She grew up at Greer Springs and Alton, MO. In her early years, she helped her father run his grocery store in Alton. Later she moved to St. Louis, MO, where for a time she cracked eggs to be shipped to the servicemen overseas and then worked in a small arms ammunition plant during WWII.
After the war, she moved to Kansas City, MO, where she married Robert Lee Cobb on June 19, 1948. They moved to Shawnee, KS, and raised two children. Lorene was a homemaker and volunteered for many church and school activities. When her children got older, she worked for Ted's Manufacturing in Shawnee for many years and retired from there. Lorene and Bob resided in Shawnee the rest of their lives. They enjoyed their Mini Midas motor home and traveled all over the USA. They visited many National Parks and took their grandchildren on fun trips. She was a member of the Shawnee United Methodist Church.
Bob preceded her in death on March 25, 2014. Lorene is survived by her daughter, Deborah K. Colstrom, Emporia, KS; her son, Robert B. Cobb, Kansas City, KS; her grand daughter and husband, Laura and Josh Evins, Emporia, KS; her grand son and wife, Matthew and Stacy Cobb, Overland Park, KS; her great grand daughter, Avery Evins; and her great grand daughter and great grand son, Peyton Cobb and Parker Cobb. She is also survived by her sisters, brothers, and sister-in-laws: Anna Jean Altizer, Mildred Wallace, Annabel Owens, Richard and Sarah Owens, Jon and Lorna Owens, and sister-in-law Donna Jennings, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Dorthy Marie Owens, her brother Kelly Owens, her sister Davene Jaeger, her parents, and her son-in-law Jerrald Colstrom.
A visitation will be held Friday at Amos Family Funeral Home from 10:00-11:00 am. Funeral service will follow, starting at 11:00 am. Burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
