With heavy hearts, we share that our beloved mother, LaQuita Joy Neal, peacefully transitioned into the arms of the Lord on November 20, 2025. Over the course of her 94 remarkable years, she touched countless lives with her boundless grace, unwavering spirit, and deep generosity of heart.
LaQuita had a true gift for hospitality, her door was always open, and her table never lacked good food or great company. From hosting family reunions and exchange students to church and club gatherings, neighbors dropping by, friends passing through, or a grandkid escaping their parents for a bit, everyone was welcomed with open arms and that signature Neal warmth. She was the heart of the home and the hostess with the mostest, always making people feel like they belonged.
LaQuita found joy and serenity in her garden, where her love for flowers and nature truly blossomed. A proud and dedicated member of the Santa Fe Trail Garden Club of Overland Park, Kansas for 38 years, she cultivated not only beautiful blooms but lifelong friendships along the way.
Born on October 16, 1931, in Troy, Kansas, LaQuita was the eldest daughter of the late Allen and Elsie Ramseier. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 51 years, Wayne F. Neal.
LaQuita’s greatest legacy is the family she nurtured. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Roxie (Bill) Cashman, Larry (Cheri) Neal, Dee (Mike) Martin, and Pam VanMeerhaeghe; and her eleven treasured grandchildren: Amanda, Rob, Brian, Craig, Michael Jr., Michele, Cindy, Christy, David, Daniel, and Eric: and her fifteen wonderful great grandchildren: Laurel, Gwyneth, Hannah, Emma, Nora, Nicole, Zachary, Sebastian, Donnella, Montserrat, Susana, Christopher, Benjamin, Samuel and a boy due in March 2026. She is also survived by her two sisters, Rosalie Dorrell and Linda Miller, as well as a wide circle of extended family and friends who were blessed by her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love.
A special blessing goes to her daughter Dee and son-in-law Mike, whose exceptional care over the past ten years brought comfort, dignity, and deep gratitude, not only to LaQuita but to the entire family.
A visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, at The Amos Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas. Closing services will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, Kansas at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in LaQuita’s name to City Union Mission, 1100 East 11th Street, Kansas City, MO 64106, or to a charity of your choice, honoring LaQuita’s spirit of compassion and care for others.
