Kristine Carol (Bourne) Henning, 58, passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2023.
Kris was born on October 24, 1964, in Seneca, Kansas, to Sonny and Judy (VanGilder) Bourne. Kris graduated from Centralia High School in 1983, after a stellar high school athletic career. Kris particularly excelled in track and set the Kansas State High School Track Meet record in the 400M Dash. Her record stood for 26 years. She graduated from Cloud County Community College, where she ran track, played basketball and softball. She attended Fort Hays State University where she met her future husband, Todd Henning.
Kris and Todd were married on Sept. 19, 1987, in the Mount Vernon Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Kansas. Their 35 years together were quite the adventure with time spent in Oklahoma, Indiana, and Kansas, with their last 24 years being in Kansas City. Kris worked as an Occupational Therapist Assistant in the public education sector. However, her true passion was raising her family and spoiling her grandchildren.
Kris was the foundation of the family, along with being the taxi driver, tailgate organizer and dance mom. Kris made sure to support all of her kids in their many passions in life. She inherited her love of baking and cooking from her mother. She also enjoyed traveling and creating memories with her children and grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her mother, Judy (VanGilder) Bourne.
She is survived by her husband, Todd Henning of Shawnee, KS, her children Chelsea (Ryan) Gracy, Shawnee, KS, Coleton (Rebecca) Henning, Louisburg, KS, Clayton Henning (Mandi Shriver), Bucyrus, KS, and Callie (Richard) Davila, Shawnee, KS, and her eight grandchildren; Banks, Collins, Baker, and Smith Gracy, Decker, Harper, and Reese Henning, and Kai Davila. Her father, Sonny Bourne. Her siblings; Dawn (Mark) Lackey and Tracy (Jill) Bourne.
Rosary and Visitation with family present will be held Wednesday, July 19, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. The Rosary will begin at 6:00pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Thursday, July 20 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 5501 Monticello Rd, Shawnee, KS 66226. Burial to follow at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, 23215 W 75th St, Shawnee, KS 66227.
The family would like to thank the countless people who supported Kris by providing meals, kindness and companionship.
