With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kenneth "Kenny" Leroy Miller, Jr., who departed this life on August 15, 2024, at the age of 75 in Shawnee, KS, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kenny was born on April 13, 1949, in Philadelphia, PA, and lived a life full of love, dedication, and adventure.
Kenny attended Wyandotte High School, graduating in 1967. He then joined the US Army in 1968 serving in Vietnam. After returning home, he began employment with the Frisco Railroad, which later became the BNSF Railroad, for 39 years; retiring in 2009.
Kenny married the love of his life, Carol “Angel” Cindrich, on September 4, 1971 and enjoyed almost 53 years of marriage, raising three children.
Outside of his professional life, Kenny had a profound love for his family and cherished every moment spent with them. He could often be found in the bleachers cheering on his children and then years later, his grandchildren at their sporting events. His favorite pastimes also included traveling, especially to the sunny shores of Florida, where he created countless cherished memories with his grandkids, waking up at sunrise to look for starfish on the beach. Camping and boating were other passions that brought him relaxation where he could often be found with a cold drink in hand and a story to share.
Kenny was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth L. Miller Sr.; his mother, Edna Depresto Miller; his brother, Raymond Miller; and his beloved dog, Sasha “Girlfriend” Miller.
Surviving Kenny is his beloved wife, Carol Miller. His legacy lives on through his children: daughter Kerry Casper, sons Eric Miller and wife Jolena, and Shaun Miller and wife Kimberly. His grandchildren, Delaney Miller, Derek Miller, Tylan Pankratz, Jakob Casper, Zachary Casper, Nicholas Miller, Matthew Miller, and his great-grandson, Myles Miller will all carry forward the stories and lessons learned from Grandpa Kenny. Kenny also leaves behind his brother, Steve Miller and wife Sharon; his sister, Charlotte Stockman; in-laws Joe Cindrich, Cathy and Gary Hightower, and John and Mary Cindrich; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 10 to 11am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, KS. Following Mass, a graveside service will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, also in Shawnee. A reception luncheon will follow back at St. Joseph Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) Foundation or to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City.
