It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kay C. (Kreeck) Carter, 90, of Kansas City, Kansas, who peacefully departed this life on the afternoon of Friday, June 20, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her beloved family.
Kay was born on March 23, 1935, in Eldorado, Kansas, to Neil and Zelda (Johnson) Kreeck. She met and married the love of her life, Gerald “Dean” Carter, Sr., on December 9, 1952, in Huntsville, Arkansas. Their 69 years of marriage stood as a powerful testament to their profound love, mutual respect, and steadfast commitment to one another.
Kay poured her heart into raising her four children with unwavering love and devotion. Her spirit came alive at the family ranch, where her lifelong passion for horses defined her happiest moments. From her earliest days, horses were woven into her soul, and she cherished each one she owned, treating them like family. Whether riding through the fields or tending to them in the barn, Kay found pure joy in their presence. Her deep connection to nature extended beyond horses, as she gently coaxed wild deer to eat from her hand, freed hummingbirds with care, and relocated raccoons with compassion. Her ranch was a warm haven of hospitality, where she welcomed loved ones with hearty meals and an open heart, creating cherished memories at gatherings in the town hall.
Kay’s legacy lives on through her children: Gerald D. (Maureen) Carter Jr., John D. (Judy) Carter, James Carter Sr., and Linda (Carter) (Michael) Gerber. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on June25, 2025, at The Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203.

Kay’s spirit of love, nurturing, and connection with both people and nature will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
