John Patrick Manning passed away peacefully on January 15th, 2023, at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, in the care of Monarch Hospice.
John was born in Port Chester, New York, on November 16th, 1943, to Jeremiah and Christina Manning, the second of six children. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era, and later pursued a career in electrical engineering, earning a Master of Science degree from the Polytechnic Institute of New York. John married Anna Spinelli in 1972, moving to Overland Park, Kansas, where they raised two children, Therese and Sean.
John was an avid reader, an amateur photographer, historian, sci-fi buff, and computer enthusiast. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and often volunteered at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Overland Park. He loved to tell tales of his military days, shared funny stories and jokes, and was always eager to help out anyone in need.
John was preceded in death by his parents Jeremiah and Christina; brothers-in-law Gene Duffy, Ray Seoane, and Joe Spinelli; nephew Marc Spinelli; and grandson James Alexander Pummill. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anna Manning; daughter Therese (Mike Sr.) Pummill, son Sean (Lilly) Manning; brothers Jeremiah (Barbara) Manning Jr, Brian (Andrea) Manning, Kevin Manning; sisters Ann (Gene) Duffy and Mary (Tim) Barber; niece Britt (Tim Fitzgerald) Spinelli; grandchildren Michael Jr., Cory, Frankie, Tyler, Jacob, and Joey, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, January 26th at 10am at Church of the Holy Cross, 8311 W 93rd St, Overland Park, KS, followed by a brief graveside service at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Rd, Lenexa, KS.
