Visitation time: Friday, April 14th [3:00pm – 5:00 pm]
John Allen Mallery peacefully left us Saturday, April 8th in the home where he raised his family with his wife of 59 years, Mary Sue. John met Mary Sue in Pensacola, FL while going through primary flight training for the US Navy. They were married in 1964 and one year later, John left for the Vietnam War. John did a tour of duty on the USS Ranger, flying the A-4 Skyhawk in 142 Combat missions. He earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses, which are awarded for heroism and extraordinary achievement, as well as several other honorable military citations. After his military service, John had a 33-year flying career with TWA. In his retirement, John spent lots of time with his adoring family. They enjoyed many day trips, family activities, nature walks, and creative arts and crafts with his grandkids. As an avid KU Basketball fan he never missed a game. The whole family knew not to call the house during a game while Papa was sitting 3 feet away from the tv in his chair. Along with leaving behind his beautiful wife and two sisters, John will be dearly missed by his 3 children, 6 grandchildren and a new great-grandson.
