Johnny Dale Acton, 78, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away November 19, 2025 in his sleep at home.
He was born in 1947 in Columbia Missouri to Albert and Juanita Acton. He had two older half sisters, Patricia and Joyce and one younger brother, Jerry Wayne. John was a brave, kind, loyal and loving man. Most of his youth was spent in the Kansas City, Kansas area.
John joined the Navy when he was 17 and was trained in communications. He spent 2 years on a naval aircraft carrier “The USS Ranger" in the waters near Vietnam and his final 2 years of his service were spent at a communications base in Scotland.
When John returned to the states he married Gillian, they had 3 children: Mona, and the twins Jessica and Alex. John was hired on at the Santa Fe Railroad and worked there until his retirement. He married Kim in 1984. The twins stayed with them in the Kansas City area and Mona stayed with her mother in Texas. Roger, Kim’s birth son, found the family in 1999. Christy, a great niece, joined the clan for 3 years. Their home was opened to the children, friends of the children, neighbors and later grandchildren: Katy, Kelcey, Bridget, Charlie, Mitchell and Cole and great-grandchildren: Adalee and Aiden, as well as dogs, cats and birds. John loved his family and also loved his animals as well as playing guitars. During the 41 years of marriage to Kim it is hard to count how many animals lived with them.
The visitation and celebration of John's life will be at Amos Funeral Home located at 10901 Johnson Drive in Shawnee, Kansas on December 13th from 2-4pm. His interment will take place at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery with full honors.
