Joanne Matthew Gay was born into the world on August 28th, 1933, to Mr. Joe H. and Wilma (Osthoff) Matthew in Kansas City, MO. She passed unto her Heavenly Father on July 5th 2026.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Vincent “Vint” P. Gay in 2002 and son Matthew T. Gay in 2023. She leaves behind her son Vincent “Vin” P. Gay Jr and his wife Alynn Gay and her grandchildren: Vickie and Josh Tillery, Mike Gay, Tom and Amber Gay and Vincent “Vinny” P Gay III and Jayde Gay and cherished great grandchildren, Jaxson and Alexis Tillery, Jonahtan and Samuel Gay and Amelia Gay.
Joanne spent most of her younger years in Little Rock Arkansas and graduated from the Little Rock Central High School in 1951. She then continued her education at the all-girls school William Woods College and graduated with an Associate of Arts in May of 1953. It was there that she met Vint who was attending the all-boys school of Westminster in Fulton, MO. They were married December 29,1953. They relocated to Texas where Vint was stationed during the Korean War. Upon completion of his service Joanne and Vint moved to the St. Louis area and started their family. In 1967 they moved to their new home in Overland Park, where Joanne remained until 2015.
Joanne was an administrative assistant at the Lenexa State Bank before moving to Valley View State Bank until she retired. Joanne enjoyed working in your flower garden and watching the many different types of birds that would visit her many bird feeders. The Cardinal was her favorite.
After several years of dealing with Alzheimer and Demetia she quietly passed away at Addington Place in Prairie Village. We wish to thank all of the caring staff that tended to meet her needs.
