JoAnn Hootz, a cherished friend and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 68 years old.

Born on December 23, 1957, in Kansas City, Kansas, JoAnn lived a life full of adventure, accomplishment, and music. Her long and distinguished career in computer and Internet technology took her to various parts of the country, including Shawnee Mission, Kansas; New Orleans, Louisiana; Naperville, Illinois; and Fort Myers, Florida, where she retired. After retirement, she made her home in Donna, Texas, and later returned to Kansas City, Kansas.

JoAnn had a remarkable singing voice that brought joy to many. She was passionately involved in church choirs and served as a cantor throughout her life and travels, developing lasting friendships through her love of music. Additionally, she found joy in bowling, attending live shows at the Starlight Theater, and cheering on the Kansas City Royals at baseball games.

A lifelong learner, JoAnn graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, and attended Emporia State University, and William Jewell College. She also earned numerous certifications and acknowledgments during her successful career. JoAnn was a proud member of the Delta Zeta sorority and recently celebrated her 50th anniversary with her sorority sisters, who held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. Hootz and Mary (Hootz) Schneller, her step-father, John Schneller, and her brother, Samuel Stone. JoAnn is survived by her beloved dog, Goldie, who brought her great joy, her step-brother, John T. Schneller, her step-sister, Kathy Baughman, and her cousin, Karen Geiger, who will cherish her memory.

A funeral service to honor JoAnn's life will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kansas, on May 6, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. A lunch will be served at the church following the mass, providing an opportunity for friends and family to gather and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who touched so many lives.

JoAnn Hootz will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness, friendship, and song will continue to inspire all who knew her.
