Joan Marie Sackett, 88, died peacefully, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Sunrise of Overland Park.
A visitation will be 5:30 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday January 25, 2022, at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203. A funeral service will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson Rd, Mission, KS 66202, burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
Joan was born on April 21, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri to Louis J. and Vinita (Thomas) Harris.
Joan met Dennis, her soul mate and love of her life at Cargill Grain. Introduced by Bernie Campfield, who would become one of their dearest friends. They were married October 2, 1954, at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Kansas City. Married 67+ years, they were working on #68.
Joan was a stay-at-home mom in her children’s early years then worked as a proof operator at Shawnee State Bank for many years. She loved to sew, from mending to complete outfits. She made matching clothes for her and Mary when Mary was younger. She made cute onesies for the grandkids. Her and Denny would make peanut brittle and homemade pickles together that were delicious, however usually not more than once a year! She loved all her grandchildren with her whole heart. They always brightened her days even towards the end.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers George and Jerry, son-in-law Jimmie Reffett and daughter-in-law Gretchen Sackett and many dear, dear friends.
Survivors include her husband of 67+ years, Dennis E. Sackett; children, Mary Reffett, Mike Sackett, Mark Sackett, and Matt Sackett (Amy); her 5 grandchildren, Megan (Cristian Vallejos); Cory Reffett, Kelsey Reffett, Rachel Sackett, and Erin Sackett; and her precious great-granddaughter Sawyer.
