In loving memory of Iva “Kay” Wood-McCracken

Iva “Kay” Wood-McCracken of Lenexa, KS. passed away peacefully on August 9th, 2026, surrounded by family.

Kay was born on July 7th, 1939 in Ottawa, KS to Ivan A. Jones and Francis Alice Jones (Oakley). She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be remembered for her love of family, her dependability, her kind heart and her love of the KC Royals, the KC Chiefs and especially the Kansas Jayhawks.

She is survived by her children, Shane Wood (Sara) of Olathe, KS and Erin Clark (Tom Seeling) of Lenexa, KS. Her grandchildren, Veronica Wood and Trystan Wood (Who knew her as “Sugar”), her sister, Shirley Mitchell and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Tim Wood and her second husband, Larry McCracken.

In high school she was an actor in the theater department, a majorette in the marching band and the head of many clubs. After attending the University of Kansas, she moved to NYC to pursue her dreams. Five years later she returned to Kansas City to marry her high school sweetheart, Tim.

She was a friend to everyone and didn’t know a stranger. She wanted to know everything about anyone she met and made you feel heard. She carried her quick wit and sense of humor to the very end. Her spark and her spirit will be deeply missed.

A visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 17th, 2026 from 5-8PM with a service to be held on Tuesday, Aug. 18th, 2026 at 12-2PM. Both will be held at Amos Family Funeral Home located at 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization that helps the families of fallen soldiers and first responders with housing and education scholarships for their children.
