Hoang Vinh, husband, father and grandfather, passed away on April 5, 2022. He was born on November 22, 1940 to his parents Buu Ky and Tran T Tu in Hue, Vietnam. He married his wife, Happi Phuc, on November 25, 1971. In their 50+ years of marriage, they were blessed with 3 children and 4 grandchildren, with 1 on the way.
Hoang proudly graduated with a degree in Architectural Engineering in Vietnam, which ultimately continued on to his profession when he immigrated to the United States with his wife and eldest son, Johnny, in May 1975 during the fall of Saigon. Hoang worked hard to re-establish new roots for his family in the heart of the Midwest (Kansas City), while carrying on a strong sense of pride for his Vietnamese heritage.
Hoang is best described as a fiery, funny and proud man. He was unwavering in his traditional values, but quick to evoke laughter with his mischievous antics. Hoang was a true entertainer at heart and never turned down a chance to do the cha-cha-cha. He was happiest when hosting friends and family in his home, filled with musical entertainment and serving up jokes while seated at the head of the table.
Hoang was a man of many interests, enjoying the little things in life like well-crafted penmanship, the French language, his beloved Chiefs, and seeking TV shows that piqued his love for games with hosts that inspired his sense of humor. But he was never shy about relishing in his family’s regal history and accomplishments. Although he was engineering-minded by day for many years, his work ethic and sense of exacting creativity will carry on in his children in different forms.
Hoang is survived by his wife, Happi; his sons, Johnny (wife Anh) and Tony; his daughter, Julie Maddox (husband Quintin); and grandchildren Alex Vinh, Maddie Vinh, Noah Vinh and Quincy Maddox; his sisters, Huyen Ton Nu Thi Tu and Huyen Ton Nu Thi Lap; and brother, Vinh Thue.
Hoang’s life will be celebrated and honored on Friday, April 15, 2022.
