Our beloved husband and father, Grant D. Schultz, passed away on Friday, April 14 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Grant’s deepest desires, apparent to all who knew him, were to honor Jesus and provide for his wife and two sons.
Grant was born in St. Joseph, Missouri; an only child to parents Donald and Paula Schultz (both deceased.) He attended St. Joseph schools and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University, in 1986, with a degree in Computer Science. From an early age, Grant was a self professed “math and science geek” with a wide range of interests from calculus to astronomy. Even as he completed difficult radiation and chemotherapy treatments over the past year, he never lost his enthusiasm for learning about the world around him. He often challenged the people in his life to see the wonder and beauty of God’s design in creation.
Grant was not all serious study, hard work, and intellectual musings. He loved to create puns and frequently shared a joke at just the right moment, to defuse a tense situation or just make us laugh out loud. Grant was also an excellent dancer. He took Ballroom Dancing in college (“because they offered it!”) and was known to twirl his wife around the kitchen floor a time or two.
Grant moved to Kansas City after college and became involved in a church singles group where he met his wife, Charlotte (Cely). They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in September 2022. After two sons, Christopher (2001), and Cameron (2002), joined the family, Grant’s favorite activity was engaging the boys in science experiments ranging from the dangerous (think chemicals) to the building of a remote-controlled airplane that majestically took off and flew a short distance!
Grant’s faith and belief in Jesus informed everything he did and accomplished in his life. His best friend, of almost 40 years, said Grant was not afraid to die because he knew he would be with the Lord, but that Grant did not want to leave his family and friends. Other friends have spoken of how Grant was a “quiet man of integrity.” This is what we remember and want to honor at his memorial service.
If you feel led to honor Grant’s life, the family requests donations to one of the following: Mill Creek Community Church – Benevolence Fund at www.mymillcreek.com or American Cancer Society at www.donate.cancer.org
