George Kendrick Mallory Jr.

George Mallory, Jr, born July 17, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio …precisely six minutes before his younger brother Steve …… passed away July 3, 2026. 

The perpetual story teller George spent his last few days sharing stories and memories with family and friends for one last time. The Mallory family moved a few times before settling in Merriam, Kansas

in 1949. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School, graduating in 1960. George dedicated his life to serving his country and community. While in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise CVN 65 during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Cold War. Then as a volunteer Firefighter EMT with the City of Merriam Fire Department for 53 and a half years. What started with his father in Amherst, Massachusetts continued on to future generations, including his son Jeff, daughter Michelle, grandson Alec, and granddaughter Gillian all a part of the fire service. 

George and his wife, Sharon married in November 1965 and had 60 wonderful years together raising their children and taking amazing vacations each summer throughout the states and abroad. 

George was employed by TWA for 40 years as an aviation mechanic at MCI with his twin brother with whom he carpooled daily to work as their shifts allowed. 

An avid car enthusiast and collector of all things related. He was often found on the weekends at local car gatherings and shows around the KC area.

He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret “Peg”, father George Sr., and sister Meg. 

He leaves behind a loving family including his wife Sharon, brother Steve, sister Susan, son Jeff (Stephanie) and daughter Michelle (Heath). Grandchildren Dabney, Alec (Beth), Sadie, and Gillian (Tanner).

George’s presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit and stories will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers the family welcomes memorial donations to the International Association of firefighters (IAFF)

The family has requested in honor of George and his passions please feel free to wear your favorite Fire Department, hot rod, or good old plaid shirt.

Funeral services will be held on Monday July 20, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Amos Family Funeral Home the family will greet friends for two hours prior to the service, starting at 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.
