We are saddened to announce the passing of Gary A. Richer, a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, coach, and friend. Gary was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on January 31st, 1952, as the only child to his parents Edward and Margaret (McMahon). He passed peacefully with family by his side on August 16, 2026, after a decade long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Gary grew up playing baseball and other sports at St. Pius X and Rummel Catholic schools in Omaha, where he made life-long friends that became family. He studied Criminal Justice at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and married his wife, Kathleen (Fogel), on November 26, 1977. After retiring as the Assistant Vice President for worker’s compensation at Berkley Risk, he became the President for Kids Chance of Kansas, where he helped provide scholarships for the children of employees injured in work-related accidents.
He raised three sons and devoted countless hours to coaching and supporting their teams. Gary was an exceptional story teller, and loved to laugh with friends and family over a drink or meal. Always ready to crack a joke, he was known for his quick wit and joyful smile. His adventurous spirit led to a love for travel and hiking, including expeditions to many renowned destinations, such as the Grand Canyon, Havasu Falls, and his favorite, Angel’s Landing.
Gary is survived by his wife and rock, Kathy, his three sons, Eric and his wife, Karla, Keith and his fiance, Youngjoo, and Adam and his wife, Sydney, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Owen, Kiera, and Billie. He was preceded in death by his parents and two cherished dogs, both named Bandit. His smile, stories, and wisdom will be greatly missed.
Rest in peace, Pops.
