Freddy Rojas Díaz, 87, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park.
Freddy was born on February 14, 1939, in Areo, Monagas, Venezuela. He was the second youngest of seven children. He met his loving wife, Hilda C. Rengel de Rojas, in their hometown during his early childhood. They were married on December 24, 1958, at Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Anaco, Anzoátegui, Venezuela. Together, they raised four children: Edilda, Eglys, Freddy, and Carlos.
Freddy was a kind and generous man with a big heart. He was a devoted father and a proud grandfather to Freddy L., Briana, Freddy J., Carlos E., Freddy A., Monica, and Ana. Despite distance, he remained closely connected with his family and friends in both Venezuela and the United States, especially through social media. He took great joy in following the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A man of strong values, Freddy believed deeply in being a good human being—an excellent husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a faithful believer in God and remained grateful for the life and family he built with his beloved wife. A tireless worker from a young age, Freddy lost his father at 14 and soon after traveled to Trinidad and Tobago to study English. This experience opened many doors for him. Upon returning to Venezuela, he began teaching English in academies and, while still a minor, started working in the oil industry. Over time, he trained in multiple disciplines, eventually managing several companies across the country and co-founding a business with his wife. He was disciplined in his work and always ensured his employees were treated with respect.
Freddy loved music in many languages and enjoyed dancing; together, he and his wife made a wonderful dance pair. He also loved movies and was an avid reader of the press, keeping up with both national and regional news. He cared deeply about his country. Known for his intelligence, sharp memory, and strong character, he believed in doing things the right way. At the same time, he had a great sense of humor and a warmth that earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
He and his wife taught their children to first know their own country before exploring the world beyond it. Freddy was respected and loved by family and friends alike. Everyone who entered his home was welcomed with joy and treated like family. He was a sincere friend who maintained lifelong relationships built on mutual respect.
Freddy found great happiness in seeing the people he loved thrive and live fulfilling lives. He was always willing to help anyone in need. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards, Rummikub, and bingo.
When he was diagnosed at age 81 with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, he expressed that God loved him and had given him this challenge to become a better person. He also hoped his condition could contribute to research that might one day help others. With this in mind, he made the decision to donate his body to support the study of the disease.
Our beloved father will always live in our hearts. Thank you for your love, your guidance, your joy, and the values you instilled in us. We will miss you deeply. Rest in peace. We love you always.
