Douglas Lee Hippe, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on February 18, 1944, in Fargo, North Dakota, Doug spent most of his life in the Kansas City area, where he made a lasting impact as a devoted father, grandfather, and distinguished clinical psychologist.

Doug was the proud father of five children: Garreth Hippe (Toland), Morgan Hippe (Lindsey), Jared Hippe (Anne), Briana Liv Hippe, and Sam Hippe. He deeply loved his eight grandchildren - Harrison, Parker, Walker, Josephine, Genevieve, Adeline, Juliet, and James and found great joy in watching them grow.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Rose Hippe, and his stepmother, Delores Hippe.

Doug earned his Ph.D. in Clinical and Neurophysiological Psychology from the University of North Dakota in 1972. He completed his fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center and went on to build a decades-long private practice in the Kansas City area, passionately serving individuals and families. In addition to his clinical work, Doug held faculty appointments at the University of Kansas and University of Missouri–Kansas City medical schools and served as an expert witness, and a consultant to numerous hospitals, mental health centers, law enforcement agencies, and businesses.

He was particularly known for going the extra mile for his patients—offering help outside office hours, engaging in hands-on advocacy, and mentoring younger clinicians. His specialties included psychotherapy, neuropsychological assessment, forensic evaluation, and clinical hypnosis.

Outside of work, Doug had a lifelong passion for fine automobiles—especially Porsches, BMWs, and American muscle cars. He enjoyed trap shooting in his younger years, was an avid fisherman and upland bird hunter, and took great pride in his Norwegian heritage and service in the Civil Air Patrol.

Doug was cremated and will be buried next to his mother, Rose, in Lankin, North Dakota. A private memorial service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to a mental health organization of your choice.

He will be remembered for his sharp intellect, compassionate spirit, dry humor, and unwavering dedication to those he served and loved.
