Douglas Ahrens, 97, a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026 surrounded by his family. Doug was born on April 17,1929 to Walter A M Ahrens and Marjorie Faller Ahrens in Fort Scott, Kansas.
Doug graduated from Fulton High School (KS) in 1947 and then went to work at Katz Drug Store before being drafted into the army. He served in the Korean War from 1951-1953 and then moved to Kansas City where he worked at General Mills for 9 years. He then went to work at Sherwin Williams where he worked for 25 years until he retired. Doug was social and liked to both be around and talk with people, so during retirement he decided to go back to work part-time at Lenexa Office Supply where he worked 13 years before fully retiring in 2002.
Doug married Carolyn Marsh on April 14, 1963 and they had recently celebrated their 63 year anniversary. They raised their family in Olathe Kansas where Doug was involved with the Olathe Optimist Club serving in several officer positions. He was also active at Grace Methodist Church in Olathe.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Carolyn Ahrens, three children Debbie Jones (Chris) of Olathe, KS, Kelli Doane (Donnie) of Overland Park, KS and Jeff Ahrens (Kelley) of Overland Park, KS. He had six grandchildren, Crystal Stephens, Matt Jones (Marie), Hunter Ahrens (K’La), Trevor Ahrens, Emma Doane (Zach) and Sam Doane. He had five great grandchildren, Ethan Stephens, Kensley Jones, Brynlee Jones, Mina Trentadue & Maeve Trentadue. Two additional great grandchildren are due in 2026 and he had four bonus grandchildren Ryder Konek-Ermey, Anikyn Ermey, Galaxy Ermey and Beatryx Ermey.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Walter AM Ahrens and Marjorie Faller Ahrens, his brother Walter Ahrens, sister-in-law Jo Ann Ahrens, son-in-law Chris Jones, father & mother-in-law Albert and Leona Marsh, brother-in-laws Herb, Harold & Rick Marsh and nephew Mitch Marsh.
Doug’s memory will live on through his family whose lives were enriched by his unwavering love and support. An open house celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 9th from 6:30-8:30 pm at The Palisades Club House 11330 Pflumm, Lenexa, KS. Interment of ashes will be at the Fort Scott National Cemetery at a future date.
