David Ray Preston, 69, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026.
David was born on February 22, 1957, in Maryland to Robert John Preston and Jacquelyn Heath Preston. He built a successful career in computer programming and information technology, where he was respected for his knowledge and problem-solving abilities. For a time, he worked at Vintage Stock, a position he especially enjoyed because it combined his work with his lifelong passion for comic books and pop culture.
David was an avid comic book enthusiast and a devoted fan of both Marvel and DC. Superman was his favorite superhero, and he rarely missed an opportunity to enjoy the latest superhero films or share his love of comics with family and friends. His enthusiasm, knowledge, and appreciation for these stories brought him great happiness throughout his life.
More than anything, David loved his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather who treasured every moment spent with those he loved. His six grandchildren held a special place in his heart and will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.
David is survived by his daughters, Leah Moore and April Bradshaw; his son, David Wesley Preston-Walsh; the mother of his children, Elizabeth Preston; his six beloved grandchildren; his siblings, Mary Preston, Bob Preston, and Paul Preston; along with extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert John Preston and Jacquelyn Heath Preston, and his brother, John Preston.
David will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, intelligence, and unwavering love for his family. His passion for technology, comic books, and the heroes he admired reflected the optimism and wonder he carried throughout his life. Though he is gone, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A private burial service will be held for the immediate family.
