Cynthia Joan Cindy Thompson, 66, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung disease.
Born on October 12, 1960, in Jackson County, Missouri, Cindy brought warmth, wit, and a touch of sass to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Cindy’s early years were filled with adventure, traveling alongside her brother James and their parents, James and Patricia Webb. Those family road trips laid the foundation for a lifetime of love and laughter that extended as the clan grew—because when Cindy and James had children, the family vacations became even grander affairs with the whole crew in tow.
Throughout her life, Cindy’s passion for travel continued, often journeying with her children and ex-husband Charles Arwood to dog shows across the country, proudly showcasing their Rottweilers. In 2004, Cindy found love again and married Jerry Thompson in beautiful Maui. Together, they embraced the vibrant community of friends, Sundays filled with Chiefs games, and the soulful sounds of the Kansas City Blues. In her later years, Cindy shared a deep and enduring partnership with Brian Burns, whom she had known since grade school—a testament to friendships that truly stand the test of time.
Professionally, Cindy was a true caregiver at heart. She worked as a nurse alongside her father in his family medicine practice, proving that talent—and good humor—can run in the family. Later in life she went back to school to become a medical assistant, showing everyone that it’s never too late to follow your passion.
But Cindy’s favorite role by far was Grannyma. She delighted in spoiling her granddaughter Cydnee Wallace, often doubling as the official chauffeur—picking her up from day care and after school care with a smile and cherishing every moment spent together. Fun fact: Cindy, her mom Patricia, her daughter Crystal, and granddaughter Cydnee all share the middle name Joan (pronounced Joanne), a little family quirk that always brought a smile to her face.
Cindy is preceded in death by her loving parents James and Patricia Rogers Webb, her husband Jerry Thompson, and her ex-husband Charles Arwood, father of her children.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Crystal (Chad) Wallace; her son Chuck Arwood (Corey Milligan); her adoring granddaughter Cydnee Wallace; her devoted partner Brian Burns; her brother James; her nephews; an aunt; and many cousins on both sides of her family. Cindy’s infectious spirit, quick wit, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
A Memorial Service celebrating Cindy’s life will be held at Amos Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas, on November 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life. Details will be shared soon for those who wish to join in honoring a woman who made every moment count—often with a smile and a clever remark. Rest easy, Cindy. Your next great adventure awaits.
