Charles Herman Burris, 91, of Lenexa, KS, died May 29, 2026, at home.

Charles, known to all as Chuck, was born on January 18, 1935, in Kansas City, Kansas. His stories of growing up in the Armourdale district of KCK sounded very much like an episode of the “Little Rascals”. Chuck graduated from Argentine High School, where he met the love of his life, Billie Jean Box, known to her friends as BJ. Chuck and BJ were married on June 12, 1954, and were blessed with 70 years together before BJ was called home in October 2024. Although they had no children, they were blessed with many nieces, nephews, greats and grands. Their family was large, full of members by blood and members by choice.

Chuck served proudly in the Kansas National Guard from 1957 to 1963 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. Chuck had a long career with Sears, Roebuck and Company, which took them to Dallas and Chicago, expanding their circle of friends wherever they lived. Chuck’s deep faith was a cornerstone of his life, and finding a church home was a priority whenever they moved. Chuck and BJ retired back to Kansas City, living in Shawnee, KS then eventually Westchester Village in Lenexa.

Chuck is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean, parents Joseph and Mae Burris, and siblings Geraldine Cain, Josheph Burris, Jr., and Barbara Wiyninger along with multiple brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by one brother, Thomas Burris, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He will be remembered as a man who always had a deep faith, a big smile, and a ready joke.
