Carolyn Louise Hale

January 23, 1933 — November 28, 2025

Lenexa

On November 28, 2025, Carolyn Louise Hale ended her long battle with dementia and passed away peacefully in her own bed, with her family present. Carolyn was born January 23, 1933, to Lawrence and Eunice Logan in Maryville, MO. Her birth was followed by her sister Merilyn and brother Kermit. The family lived in Maryville until 1943 when World War II relocated them all to San Diego for the duration. After the war, they returned to the Kansas City area and Carolyn graduated from Paseo High in 1951.

She worked as a secretary before and after she married Wayne Hale on October 10, 1953. In 1961, they moved to Nebraska and farmed for 8 years then returned to the Shawnee/Lenexa area for the remainder of their lives. Carolyn loved music and theater and left high school with a lifelong avocation as a seamstress. She created everything from clothes for herself and her daughter, a winter overcoat fully lined, with a fur collar, men’s sports coats, 2 wedding dresses, and countless Barbie doll clothes for all the little girls in the family. She sewed matching outfits for herself and Wayne during the years they enjoyed square dancing.

Carolyn was always generous with her love and her time; she did countless hours of volunteer work with her women’s church group, along with volunteering at the Johnson County Multi-Service Center, St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen in KCK, and the Christmas Bureau.

Carolyn was a charter member of the MoKan chapter of the ABWA, from 1980 until 2023. She served in various committee assignments and served terms as Secretary and Chapter President. In the last years before she quit driving, Carolyn tutored kindergarten children in reading. Carolyn and Wayne loved to travel and did so extensively in North America. They visited Canada and Mexico and managed to check off over half of the US National Parks, including a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Alaska, Denali, and they crossed the Arctic Circle. After Wayne passed, she logged a cruise around Hawaii and a cruise to Mexico. Carolyn’s family and friends will greatly miss her quiet presence, wise and loving counsel, and her patience.

She is survived by her brother Kermit Logan, her daughter Cheryl (Richard) Goodman, son Charles (Nancy) Hale, grandchildren Russell (Judy) Bergquist, Connor (Sasha) Goodman and Laura Harris (dec.), great-grandchildren Megan Beltz, Kelsey Franklin, Tasia Gonsalez, Piper Montez, Logan Harris, Sydnee Bergquist, Aidan Harris, Alister Goodman, and Matthew Hale (dec.) along with 12 great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at the Amos Family Funeral Home on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 5 to 7pm. A funeral service will begin at 3pm at the Lenexa United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 13, 2025. She will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Cemetery with her late husband, Wayne Hale, at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lenexa United Methodist Church
