Overseer (Reverend) Carl Wilkes was born to Jesse and Daisy Wilkes on May 18, 1942, in Haskell, Oklahoma. Carl was the youngest of eight children. His parents, and six siblings preceded him in death. Although born in Haskell, Oklahoma, Carl’s family moved to Olathe and then Merriam, KS, where Carl lived throughout his adult life.

Carl completed middle and high school in the Olathe School District. Carl also had class hours in business and law at Kansas City Kansas Junior College.

Carl was united in marriage to the love of his life, Wanda Webb, on January 28, 1962. To this marriage, of 61 years, five children were born. Carl was a baptized Believer in Jesus Christ our Lord and was ordained into ministry at Church of The Living God PGT Olathe, at the age of 25. Carl was blessed with a wonderful tenor singing voice. Even while battling his illness and ultimate transition, Carl sang and gave mini sermons to all the family. Praising God, throughout his battle.

Carl was a loving husband, father, minister, hard worker, difference maker, and helpful hand to anyone that needed him. His work over his lifetime was in Public Service which included: U. S. Treasury Dept, Mayor for the city of Merriam, KS, Executive Director Multi Service Center JC, Director for Section 8 Housing of JC, Field Supervisor for the Johnson County Human Services and Aging Dept., Certified Risk Assessor for the State of Kansas, Certified Contract Oversight Manager, and Contract Administrator for Resolution Trust Corporation. Carl received many Citations and Awards including, Congressional Recognition, during his public service in these fields.

Carl and Wanda’s first born, Jacquelyn died of SIDS six weeks after birth. Left to cherish Carl’s memory are: his wife, Wanda Wilkes, two daughters; Carla Goodman (Gene) and Marceline Whistler (Parrish) two sons; Everett Wilkes (Theresa) and Christopher Wilkes (Amy), brother; Willard Beard (Maggie), 14 grandchildren; Leslie, Rachel, Marcus, Dayna, Corporal Henry Bell U.S. Army, Jackson, Samantha, Officer Sean Wilkes Olathe P.D., Brenna, Noah, Myla, Christian, Sarah, and Alex, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended family and loving friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the Amos Family Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Drive Shawnee, KS 66203. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00pm.
